Fructis Goodbye Damage Serum with Amla Review. Does It Seal Hair Ends?

My hair ends aren’t split or scary-looking. In fact, they’re not splitting at all. They’re nice and well-kept thanks to a regular hair oil treatment. I always apply my fave hair oil to damp and dry strands, and hair tips.

My mum has a problem with split hair ends. She’s so stubborn and doesn’t want to trim them. Why? Because… she doesn’t! She refuses to get it that everyone faces up to damaged hair ends. Everyone. Without exception. The day came when we noticed that her hair ends started splitting in some places.

There was one thing we could do: make a hairdresser’s appointment. But… Suddenly I remembered Fructis serum I saw in a drugstore advertised as a ‘bandage’ for split ends. A small orange pump bottle with a catchphrase throwing down a challenge: ‘DON’T CUT split ends. Seal them!’

Really, Fructis?

Challenge accepted!

I must tell you about the thing that encouraged me to buy Goodbye Damage serum. It was one of the ingredients – Amla fruit extract that has been known to Hindu women as an amazing hair repairing, conditioning and beautifying substance for ages.

I got disappointed when I looked at the list of ingredients. Amla is at the very end so it’s in trace quantities. Here’s the composition:

Cyclopentasiloxane, Dimethiconol, Parfum/Fragrance, Eugenol, Limonene, Linalool, Benzyl Salicylate, Benzyl Alcohol, Alpha-Isomethyl Ionone, Butylphenyl Metyhlpropional, Citronellol, Hexyl Cinnamal, Amyl Cinnamal, Phyllanthus Emblica Fruit Extract

Let me be honest: it doesn’t look good. Volatile silicones come in the largest amounts; they can do a lot of damage before evaporating for good. I expected there would be some conditioning ingredients after the silicones but… sadly… I found fragrances (potential allergens!), alcohols and a drop of amla extract. I kept looking for some valuable substances but ended up in failure.

Is there something that can seal hair ends?

Let me clear up all doubts: THERE ISN’T SUCH A THING.

There’s no product or substance that can bind split ends back together. Although silicones included in cosmetics can make them look better, none of hair products or ingredients will repair damaged hair tips. Only trimming them can save you. So, girls: don’t fall for commercials and read lists of ingredients. Take care of your hair and nourish it regularly to avoid such problems in the future.
