I believe that since I managed to tame my unruly and frizzy strands with no flat iron, I’m sure you can do this as well! I’m keeping my fingers crossed. Feel welcome to read the entry! 🙂

Is a flat iron really that bad for our hair?

In my opinion, it all depends whether we use this tool wisely. All hairstyle devices can be a cool and completely harmless solution, only if used in moderation.

Once I had an unfortunate episode with a flat iron in my life, after which I almost lost all my hair due to my own stupidity. I used to maniacally straighten my hair, even a few times per day, never setting lower temperature than 180 degrees Centigrade. It’s easy to predict what were the outcomes of such a bad habit – my hair’s condition was nothing but terrible, it looked like straw, drastically dehydrated, rough, stiff and burned to such an extent that the hair ends were almost white. Sadly, there was nothing to rescue anymore so I had to have it cut short and take care of what I was left with. Extremely useful were natural oils such as castor oil, for accelerated hair growth, as well as argan oil that I used to regenerate the strands and protect them from factors that might have contributed to worsening my hair’s condition. Once I managed to bounce my hair back, I was looking for alternatives to the flat iron. Fortunately, the methods dealing with frizzy hair were fast to come along.

STRAIGHT HAIR WITHOUT USING A FLAT IRON

My tried-and-tested methods for straightening hair without heat 🙂

  1. Gravitation – (nope, I’m not talking here about the movie with Sandra Bullock) the ally of straight hair is gravitation that constantly pulls the strands downwards. All you need is the right weight, therefore, the longer strands are, the harder it is for them to lift and curl. The effectiveness resides in simplicity.
  2. Drying hair down – hair can be made straight due to applying a certain method of blow drying. Of course, we work with temperature here, but you can make use of cool airstream and hold a blow-dryer in more or less 8 inch distance from the hair. How to straight hair thanks to a blow-dryer? Don’t blow the airstream at every possible direction but focus it by moving the device only downwards. Additional help is provided by nozzle most blow dryers feature; indeed, it’s a considerable easing. Also, this procedure is facilitated due to a round brush. Stretching hair using a round brush doesn’t only make hair remain straight but also strands aren’t flat as they gain more volume.
  3. Hair oils – it is believed that, in most cases, hair waves because it lacks smoothness and moisturisation. Therefore, the best solution seems to be posed by oil hair treatment. For me, hair oils appeared to be more than just rescue for damaged hair. I also consider them as a marvellous way to get my hair straight without exposing it to heat. Basically, making hair straight due to oils doesn’t differ much from a regular oil hair treatment – I massage my favourite oil into the scalp, distribute evenly to the entire hair length in 1-2 hours before washing. Then, I wash the hair as usual and dry it applying the above-mentioned method.
  4. Cosmetic paraffin – I apply it rarely because of the aroma which is far from being pleasant, at least for me. However, I find it as the perfect method for nourishing and smoothing my unmanageable strands. When rubbed into strands like an oil, it helps hair become more straight, smooth and shiny.
  5. Herbs – making hair straight without using a flat iron always requires finding another ally. In this case, we can turn to herbs. A few months ago I was testing various herbs hoping that some of them would help me take control over the curls, which, obviously, I didn’t want to have. To my surprise, it was sage hair wash that appeared as the best one. Brew 2-3 bags of sage in 1 litre of boiling water and once the infusion cools down, wash your hair with it. You can expect the hair to be more manageable when you comb it and blow-dry moving a brush from the top of your head downwards.

How to make your hair remain constantly straight? Visit at a hairdresser’s

I rarely visit hairdressers since I’ve learnt how to take care of the hair myself. Nevertheless, thanks to my friends and bloggers, I know that a reliable method providing you with the looked-for effect is keratin hair straightening treatment. I haven’t exposed my hair to the treatment but I saw the outcomes. Hence, I think that it’s a good idea to mention this method since you may find it perfect for you as an alternative solution.

Keratin Hair Straightening Treatment – it’s a fine hair regenerative treatment which makes hair smooth, elastic, shiny and really straight. How does keratin hair straightening treatment look like? This a professional treatment that fixes damages by inserting keratin into the gaps created in hair’s structure (after all, this is the protein which poses a building block of, isn’t it?) Don’t bother when you notice that a hairdresser reaches for a flat iron during the procedure. This hair straightening method requires use of this tool to help the keratin get sealed for months. In this case, the effect a flat iron delivers is really long-lasting.

Now you know how to make your hair straight in a few safe ways.

If you know any other methods that I didn’t mention – leave a comment! 🙂
